The SoCon's Past Two Champions Meet Saturday in Greenville

The Paladins and Bears are the past two SoCon champions, with Mercer claiming the 2024 crown--its first in program history and Furman won its league-standard 15th SoCon crown and first outright crown in 34 years two years ago--as the two look to remain in both the hunt for the SoCon and regular-season titles. Furman Finds 'Complete Game' in Homecoming Triumph Over Bitter Rival The Citadel

Furman true freshman wideout and Jerry Rice Award candidate Evan James GREENVILLE, S.C.--After getting outscored 83-20 in a two-week span on the road against Western Carolina and Wofford in league play, Furman returned home looking for a 'complete game' against heated rival The Citadel in a homecoming battle, and that was more than enough motivation to get the season back on course, as the Paladins dominated all three phases of the  game in downing The  Citadel, 24-14 in the 105th renewal of the rivalry.   Saturday’s clash will mark the 105 TH all-time meeting between the two programs Date: Oct. 25, 2025 Site: Paladin Stadium (13,590)/Greenville, S.C. Kickoff Time: 2 p.m. EST Setting The Scene:   Saturday’s annual contest between Furman (4-3, 2-2 SoCon) and The Citadel (3-4, 2-2 SoCon) is arguably the biggest rivalry in the Southern Conference and one of the biggest and most-heated rivalries in all of FCS Football.  Saturday's contest at Paladin Stadium will mark the 105th all-time clash between the two programs, which began in 1913, with Furman holding a 64-37-3 all-time series edge, which includes winning each of the four clashes between the two programs. A win for Furman on Saturday would mark its fifth-straight in the series, marking its longest string of victories in the series since winning nine-straight from 1982-90.
